Cheltenham Festival 2017 – Altior lands the Arkle at odds of 1-4

Well where do I start? The first day of this year’s Cheltenham festival was certainly memorable. The day started with Gordon Elliott’s 25/1 runner Labaik pulling off a massive shock in the opening race by beating favourite Melon.

The second race seen massive favourite Altior steam to victory to win the The Arkle Chase.

Un Temps Pour Tout won the 2:40 for David Pipe at 9/1 while Nicky Henderson bagged his second winner of the day in the big one at 3:30 when Buveur D’Air battled Henderson’s other runner My Tent Or Yours but Buveur D’Air did the job to win Henderson the prestigious race.

Everyone taught the 4:10 Mares’ Hurdle would be a battle between Willie Mullins’ Vroum Vroum Mag and Limini but the two ended up battling for second as Elliott’s Apple’s Jade beat the Mullins pair at 7/2.

Elliott bagged his hat trick in the 4:50 as Tiger Roll outran his odds at a tasty 16/1 while 50/1 Missed Approach and Haymount got places at a whopping 50/1 and 33/1.

The last race of the day saw Tully East win the 5:30 for ALAN Fleming. Our tip Foxtail Hill led until his fall at the 8th.

It was an eventful first day of the Cheltenham Festival, our Day two tips are available here. Happy Racing.
